LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – From now on, two Lexington families will forever remember their July 4 holiday differently. This past Independence Day, Shaquille Newby and Tyler Sandusky were gunned down in a car on Danielle Lane.

And, like more than half the murders that have happened in Lexington this year, theirs are still unsolved.

Under the cover of darkness and the chance that gunshots could be mistaken for celebratory fireworks, someone got away with taking two young lives.

In the five months since, detectives still haven’t been able to come up with a name or a reason why Shaquille Newby and Tyler Sandusky are gone.

“The case hasn’t been solved, it hasn’t been wrapped up, we don’t have somebody in jail,” said Crime Stoppers coordinator Det. Anthony Delimpo. “It should be very concerning that we have someone like that out there in our community.”

Lexington Police said the call that was made to 911 came roughly an hour after the shots were fired. Initially, the person who heard them looked outside but didn’t see anything suspicious. It was later, when they went outside again, they noticed someone outside a car.

“We have very little information,” Delimpo said. “No sound of a car speeding off, no description.”

But, someone heard chatter. Someone knows what happened, and Detective Delimpo said it doesn’t matter where the information comes from as long as it moves the case forward.

“Crime Stoppers doesn’t care if you were involved in some kind of crime in this aspect. We want you to reach out to us anonymously and what you know to solve this case,” Delimpo said.
