LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – Lexington Police are turning up the heat on a thief swiping vacuum canisters from a local car wash as this week’s Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week.

Detectives say the same man has hit the Clean Sweep on Boston Road three times in the past two weeks, and they’re hoping a tip to Crime Stoppers helps put a stop to it.

“It’s the only location so far that this gentleman’s hit,” says Lexington Police Detective Anthony Delimpo. But the man’s dirty deed at Clean Sweep means mounting replacement cost for the store’s owner.

“Thousands of dollars worth of damage to Clean Sweep and somebody has to pay for that,” Delimpo says.

Surveillance video shows the man casually walking off in the middle of the night with one of the store’s vacuum canisters. He was back again a few days later to do the same thing, even wearing the same camo pants and red or orange polo shirt.

“I’m sure he’s thinking the first time, ‘well I wasn’t caught, nobody knows who I am, I’m going to come back again and again and again.’ But what our viewers will see is we’ve got really good video and pictures of this individual and we 100% believe he lives in Lexington,” said Delimpo.

Police say the vacuum canister culprit is likely scrapping the metal somewhere. His profits, not nearly what someone could make by telling Crime Stoppers who he is.
