Each year the Kentucky Medical Association chooses a health issue to conduct a public education campaign. Last year’s influenza epidemic resulted in more than 10,000 cases of infection and 325 deaths in Kentucky alone.

A flu shot is your best line of defense against the flu and its potentially serious complications. While there are many different flu viruses, flu vaccines protect against the 3 or 4 viruses that research suggests will be most common.

The flu shot is safe and is recommended for everyone 6 months and older each year before flu activity begins in their community, which is typically the end of October.
