ERLANGER, Ky. (FOX 56) – A Kenton County couple was injured Wednesday morning after a group of thieves stole their car sticking and injuring them.

Erlanger police said the couple witnessed the group breaking into their car on Hallam Avenue while it was warming up in their driveway, but when they tried to stop the thieves they hit the couple with the car and then drove away with the stolen car, and one other car.

The car was tracked to a gas station in Carrollton.

While escaping one of the thieves fired a single gunshot which the victims told police they believed was directed at them. Carroll County deputies were notified and responded.

Police said while arriving at the gas station a deputy found two cars speeding from the direction of the gas station. The deputy alerted Kentucky State Police. A trooper spotted the cars and began chasing them.

After several minutes the chase ended when a car crashed in Louisville. The occupants ran from the car as it caught fire and completely burned.

One juvenile suspect was located and taken into custody.

A loaded Taurus 9mm was found in the roadway along the chase route. Police believe one of the occupants tossed it out during the chase.

Authorities said security camera recordings show 11 suspects from two cars committed several thefts in Erlanger and Elsmere Wednesday. Police believe after taking the car from Hallam Avenue, all three cars traveled to Carrollton where the stolen Erlanger car was electronically disabled.

The thieves were forced to abandon the disabled car before being discovered by state troopers.
