MONTICELLO, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident they are describing as “road rage” between two men on Saturday.

At 11:50 a.m., Wayne County Dispatch said they were notified about a man lying in the road on KY Highway 776 near the Freedom area.

Initial investigations showed that an apparent road rage incident occurred between two vehicles, and the drivers reportedly shot each other. One driver sustained life-threatening injuries and had to be life-flighted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for emergency treatment.

Deputies said the other individual declined treatment as they had only received minor injuries.

During the investigation, authorities said both drivers gave “conflicting details” of the incident, as both claim the other shot first and they were acting in self-defense.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the shooting.
