MANCHESTER, Ky. (FOX 56) — Jason Smith was shot and killed on Saturday after reportedly breaking into another man’s home in Manchester, according to Kentucky State Police.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the scene, where they reported Smith was met at the door while trying to break into a residence. The two got into a physical altercation, ending with Smith being shot.

He was taken to Advent Health Emergency Room before being life-flighted to Albert B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington. He would later succumb to his injuries.

An investigation is underway by Kentucky State Police after a 44-year-old man was fatally shot in Manchester.

According to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office, after being shot around the 6000 block of U.S. Highway 421 northbound, Jason Smith was declared dead at 10:38 a.m. at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Smith’s death is being investigated as a homicide, per the coroner’s report. The Kentucky State Police in London are handling the case.
