KENTUCKY (FOX 56) — From Mammoth Cave to Cumberland Falls, the rolling horse farms of Lexington, and the Red River Gorge, Kentucky has a lot of great getaway options.

An important part of a weekend getaway or a summer vacation often begins with where people rest their heads at night. Road Affair compiled a list of some of 2023’s best Airbnbs tucked away in the Bluegrass State.

1. “Captain’s Cabin”: A romantic cabin with a lake found in Louisville

Couples looking to leave the stresses and troubles of life behind for a while should look no further than renting this “historic hillside cabin overlooking a private lake.”

This cabin features a cozy, stone fireplace with high wood-beamed ceilings and a peaceful porch equipped with multiple rocking chairs.

According to Road Affair, the bedroom comes equipped with a comfortable queen-size Sleep Number bed and a vintage claw-foot bathtub in the bathroom.

Jan Paul and Tammy Donelson are in charge of the Airbnb, and they told FOX 56 that the cabin is a vintage cabin from the early 1800s that was brought to Louisville in 1972 and reconstructed.

For history buffs, the Donelsons also said the cabin is filled with artifacts and reproductions from the 1804-1806 Lewis and Clark era.

Guests also have access to a canoe with a nearby creek to cool down on a warm summer day.

2. ‘Riverside Cabin’: Bowling Green near Lost River Cave

This lakeside cabin sits right on the banks of the Barren River, near Lost River Cave.

As RoadAffair describes it, the cabin makes for a peaceful nature getaway. The inside of the cabin has “wraparound” picture windows, which provide ample light in every space and some nice views of the river. Fairy lights hung around the rental provide a nice ambience.

The bedroom offers “panoramic views” of the woods and the river and comes equipped with a soft, king-size memory foam bed.

Outside, the property offers a sizable stone patio and a built-in fireplace, which pair nicely with a crisp, cool night in the Bluegrass.

3. Cabin of Freedom Falls: A massive, private waterfall found in the Red River Gorge

The Cabin of Freedom Falls offers the “ultimate recipe for a stress-free holiday in the country.”

Hidden away in the Red River Gorge, this luxury cabin offers three bedrooms and can sleep up to eight guests. The master bedroom features a king-size bed and a bathroom with a walk-in rain shower.

The second bedroom features a queen-size bed, and the third has bunk beds.

As if a three-bedroom log cabin wasn’t lavish enough, the rental is also equipped with a billiards room, a private hot tub, and a “massive” private waterfall.

Outside of the rental, there is a covered deck with a handcrafted wood bar, stools, and a grill. There’s also a sizable firepit surrounded by chairs where guests can relax under a blanket of stars.

For guests looking to unwind and decompress after a day in nature, the living room features an electric fireplace and a large flat-screen television.

4. Treehouse near an abandoned 1800s settler’s cottage: Located in Germantown

This secluded treehouse is hidden away in Germantown and offers plenty of fun activities for friends and family. With around 200 acres of themed trails on the property, each trail offers a different experience.

Kids can take part in a scavenger hunt down near the pond, and the whole family can explore the ruins of a nearby 1800s settler’s cottage.

Meanwhile, the interior of the treehouse features a loft-style layout equipped with a full kitchen. The deck also offers a place to grill and chill under the Kentucky sky.

This treehouse encourages guests to spend time with each other out in nature, so the treehouse does not offer Wi-Fi access but does come stocked with books, toys, and board games.

5. Fairy-tale Treehouse: Surrounded by sparkling fairy lights in the Red River Gorge

This Airbnb is surrounded by tall trees and rolling hills in the Red River Gorge. In fact, the treehouse is just steps away from the trailheads in the Gorge, which makes it “ideal for families and couples looking to explore nature.”

Guests can enjoy their morning coffee on the deck while overlooking the forest or head down to the firepit to warm up after a long day of hiking. There is a second deck downstairs that offers a porch swing and rocking chairs.

This home offers a loft-style layout garnished with comfortable furnishings, including a “small reading nook” upstairs.

The treehouse can comfortably sleep up to four with a queen-size mattress in the bedroom and a pullout couch downstairs.

A well-equipped kitchenette is available, including a toaster, mini fridge, and drip coffee maker. There is also a charcoal barbecue grill outside that can be used to cook.
