FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — As the countdown continues for the 149th running of the Kentucky Derby, Gov. Beshear added to the excitement by unveiling a new poster commemorating the event.

On Thursday, Beshear was joined by artist Richard Sullivan to give the public the first glimpse of the 2023 Governor’s Derby Celebration poster.

Sullivan designed this year’s poster to portray the state’s rich history of horse racing. Sullivan said the inspiration for the poster came from the “energy the horses create while competing.” Sullivan’s artwork encapsulates the bright springtime feeling of springtime in Kentucky.

“I am so honored to have been asked to create the 2023 Governors Derby Celebration poster,” said Richard Sullivan. “As an artist and former athlete, I love capturing the raw athleticism, power, and movement of the horses as they gallop down the track.”
