ASHLAND, Ky. (FOX 56) – A Boyd County woman has been taken into custody following an investigation into the death of a 2-year-old.
On Feb. 14, Kentucky State Police were contacted by Boyd County law enforcement regarding an unresponsive juvenile at the 1500 block of Greentree Court.
At the scene, authorities said they found an unresponsive 2-year-old and 911 was contacted. The child was transported to Kings Daughters Medical Center, but the child was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:
Further investigation by KSP found the child died due to the ingestion of fentanyl.
A search warrant showed fentanyl was present in the room where the child was found.
Brittney Copodonna was indicted on March 21 and she was taken into custody without incident on March 23.

At 3:56 p.m., Copodonna was booked into the Boyd County Detention Center and has been charged with:
- First-degree manslaughter
- First-degree wanton endangerment
- First-degree possession of a controlled substance (cocaine)
This case remains under investigation.
