OWENSBORO, Ky. (FOX 56) – A Owensboro cold case from 1994 has finally had a break, and a man was arrested in North Carolina.
In December 1994, a 19-year-old woman was kidnapped near Brescia University in Owensboro and assaulted. Owensboro police said the woman was then taken to Indiana where the assault continued.

A news release said Indiana State Police were asked to reopen the case and test stored DNA materials that were collected before the development of the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).
On March 22, detectives received a DNA match. A news release said the Hickory Police Department in North Carolina served an arrest warrant for 59-year-old Robert Shelton on Friday. He was charged with kidnapping and first-degree sexual abuse, and an additional rape charge from the Indiana Police Department.
