FLATWOODS, Ky. (FOX 56) – Kentucky State Police are investigating a deadly shooting in Pike County.

Monroe Jackson has been charged with murder for the death of 32-year-old Ryan Hurst.

According to a release from KSP, Hurst was shot and killed early Monday night. But as of Wednesday, Hurst’s family was still waiting on official notice and more information from the agency.

His sister, Kionna Vance, expressed her frustration with the investigation.

“We have nothing, they haven’t told us anything. They haven’t told us anything. I just want to know what happened that made that man think he could take my brother’s life,” Vance said.

The family told FOX 56 they are unsure of Hurst’s relationship with Jackson or why he was even in Pike County. The family said they found out about Hurst’s death through a Facebook message.

“It was a voice memo saying hey somebody named Ryan Hurst was shot in Pike County. I don’t know if that’s your brother or not, but I just wanted to let you know. That’s how we found out. That’s how the news was broke to us.”

Hurst is remembered as a loving big brother and father who was always trying to make someone laugh.

As the family makes funeral arrangements to say their final goodbye, they’re also calling on law enforcement to help make their grieving process easier by offering even just a little bit of closure.

Hurst leaves behind two children. A GoFundMe has been set up to help his family.

Monroe Jackson is scheduled to appear in court next Thursday.
