MAYFIELD, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Kentucky State Police are actively investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at the Mayfield-Graves County Fairgrounds.

Graves County Sheriff’s Office reported that Officers from the Frankfort Police Department were patrolling the area while assisting local departments with tornado aftermath relief.

According to police, a man armed with a firearm approached officers and fired multiple shots in their direction.

Officers from the Frankfort Police Department returned fire, striking the suspect.

The man was transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield where he was pronounced dead.

The incident remains under investigation.
