LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Louisville woman hit the jackpot at a company holiday party on Tuesday, according to Kentucky Lottery officials.
Lori Janes, who works at Harmon Dental Center, said she was happy to get a gift card to TJ Maxx during their $25 white elephant gift exchange, but it was “stolen” from her.
Janes then decided to take a pair of Kentucky Lottery scratch-off tickets from someone else.
“Once it got to me, it was done and mine to keep. That’s when everyone was telling me to scratch them off,” said Janes.
She came out on top after the first ticket, winning $50. The second scratch-off proved even more valuable, earning Janes the game’s top prize of $175,000.
“We figured she didn’t look at it right, but then we heard people in the background celebrating, it became real,” Janes’ husband told lottery officials.
After taxes, the lottery said she took home $124,250. Janes said she plans to use the money to pay off her daughter’s student loans and their cars.
