LONDON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Laurel County man pled guilty to trafficking fentanyl which led to an overdose, the Commonwealth attorney for Laurel County announced Monday.
According to the assistant commonwealth’s attorney, Laurel County deputies responded on March 30, 2022, to a call regarding a woman suffering a medical emergency. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the woman was suffering from a fentanyl overdose from taking what she believed was heroin.
The Laurel County Sheriff’s Department said through an investigation, it recovered evidence confirming David Lee Cornett, 38, of London was trafficking fentanyl.
According to court records, Cornett pled guilty on March 16 to the charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl) and first-degree wanton endangerment.
Cornett’s sentencing is scheduled for April 19.
