LONDON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Monday marks one year since the tragic death of London Police Officer Logan Medlock, who was killed when a car crashed into his cruiser.

The man behind the wheel, Casey Byrd, was allegedly under the influence at the time and was charged with the murder of a police officer and driving under the influence.

Over the weekend, friends and family gathered at the site of the crash, where a memorial now stands.

They said they hope the memorial gives people a place to reflect on and remember Medlock’s life.

“This is the anniversary of the worst day of my family’s lives. No words can explain the emptiness that we feel. Our hearts are forever broken. The Lord and Savior Jesus Christ carries us everyday, he holds us and he comforts us when we call out his name. I beg everyone that don’t know Jesus as their Savior to seek him and he will answer. I thank everyone that came out this cold, rainy day to participate in this memorial run. I am so proud of each and everyone. Thank You all!” Major Randy Medlock, Logan’s dad, said.
