GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) – Triple T Metal Corporation unexpectedly dealt with a fire on Friday.

According to Chief Tevis Graham with the Camp Dick Fire and Rescue, at around 11:09 a.m., a pile of scrap metals caught fire while an excavator was grabbing a chunk to load onto a conveyer belt.

The pile of scrap metal was located in the middle of a junkyard area on Tripe T Metal Corporation’s property.

Graham said a flammable chemical inside of either a refrigerator or a car inside of the pile is what most likely caused the fire.

The fire took almost two hours to extinguish.

The Garrard County Fire Department had help from the Lancaster City Fire Department, District 1 Fire Department, and Jessamine County Fire Department as well.

Graham said when their crews arrived on the scene, all the employees were already safely off to the side of the fire and no one was hurt.

Triple T Metal Corporation will be spending the rest of the day making sure the remaining metals from the fire go through a conveyer belt that is being hosed with water, to ensure no other materials catch on fire.
