WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Wolfe County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the drowning victim as 23-year-old Michael Parker, of Lexington.

A man died Thursday after attempting to swim across a lake.

Wolfe County Search and Rescue said around 5 p.m., a 911 caller reported a possible drowning at Wolfe Lake in Campton.

When the Water Rescue Team and Dive Team arrived a bystander reported that a 23-year-old man was attempting to swim across the lake when he went under about halfway across the lake.

Search and rescue said the friend had attempted to rescue the drowning victim but was unable to pull him ashore.

After a 30-minute search, and the man was located and pulled ashore, where he was pronounced dead by emergency medical services and the coroner.

“Swimming across any large body of water without a proper flotation device is never a good idea. Add cold water temperatures and exhaustion into the mix and it makes a deadly combination,” the team shared on a Facebook post.
