MOREHEAD, Ky. (FOX 56) — An investigation is underway after skeletal remains were discovered in Rowan County.

According to the Rowan County Coroner’s Office, the Morehead Police Department Dispatch received a call around 4 p.m. Sunday from someone who claimed to have discovered skeletal remains in a remote wooded area in Morehead.

Upon arrival at the scene, the Morehead Police Department and the Rowan County Coroner’s Office confirmed the findings were human skeletal remains. A search of the area began and went on until dark. That search resumed Monday morning.

The Rowan County coroner indicated that the skeletal remains will be transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
