“It’s just huge. We’ve made a $75-million investment, and we’ve employed over 250 people. It’s a huge shot in the arm for us and the racing community,” Lucas said.
Gov. Andy Beshear announced preliminary sports wagering numbers showing nearly $250 million has been wagered in Kentucky. This is why Lucas along with many others are expecting Sandy’s to be a big boost to the Boyd County economy. Excitement has been high as everything is being tested in the facility.
“The energy today, we had a first test with 500 people that was very exciting. Just to see smiles on people’s faces here in Boyd County has been fantastic,” Lucas said.
Sports betting is seen as a way to keep money in Kentucky, and having Sandy’s in Boyd County is expected to do the same, meaning they hit the jackpot when it comes to county development.
“Between the County Judge here, the fiscal court, and the governor, big hats off to Gov. Andy Beshear. It’s great to see a Democratic governor working with a Republican county board; it’s just been awesome,” Lucas said.
