LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – One individual is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Lexington.

A release by the Lexington Police Department stated that officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Gay Place around 7:49 p.m. on Sunday for reports of an armed suicidal subject.

Authorities said that while officers were en route, the Division of Enhanced 911 received an additional call of shots fired at the same location.

After officers arrived, they stated that a subject stepped out of the residence armed with a handgun and rifle. Officers pled with the subject and asked him to drop the weapons, he refused and opened fire at officers. Officers reportedly returned fire, striking the subject.

Reports indicate that the 43-year-old white male subject sustained serious injuries. Emergency care was given by paramedics and the Lexington Fire Department before he succumbed to his injuries.

The Lexington Police department said that five of their officers returned gunfire during the incident and that all of them were uninjured.

The incident is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police Critical incident Response team and the Lexington Police Department will conduct an internal review of the incident.

The Lexington Police Department stated that their body cameras were activated at the time and the officers involved will be placed on administrative assignment pending evidence review.

The subjects identity has not been released at this time.
