FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest after investigating retail theft cases in Frankfort and surrounding areas.

Timothy Davis, 56, from Franklin County was charged with receiving stolen property of over $10,000.00 in value. Peter Kiger, 53, of Lexington, has been charged with receiving stolen property over $10,000.00. Kiger has an active arrest warrant for him at this time in regards to this investigation.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said detectives have noticed a major increase in shoplifting recently and have been working with multiple store’s loss-prevention departments and Georgetown police to help reduce incidents.

The sheriff’s office said they recently recovered $15,000 worth of tools and equipment that belonged to Franklin County businesses.

“These tools and power equipment are often stolen and traded for illicit drugs, sold to a “fence” for pennies on the dollar, or sold and traded on online trading groups such as Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist,” the office said.

Lowe’s, Harbor Freight, Tractor Supply, and Rural King have been the main retailers hit with the recent increase in thefts.

Detectives said the holiday shopping season is expected to increase the problem more, but they will continue to help curb thefts.
