LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – Lexington police are currently investigating a shooting that left one man dead and a woman injured on North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Around 7:33 p.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to the parking lot of the Marathon gas station in the 300 block of North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

At the scene, officers said two individuals had sustained gunshot wounds. One of the shooting victims, a woman, had reportedly non-life-threatening injuries.

The two were transported to an area hospital for treatment, and one of the shooting victims, 43-year-old Justin Cooke, was pronounced dead at 8:44 p.m. at the University of Kentucky Hospital, according to authorities.

FOX 56’s Georgia McCarthur spoke with friends of Cooke, and they are at a loss for words and said he left behind a daughter.

According to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office, Cooke’s death was confirmed to be a homicide by a gunshot wound.


Police said there are currently no known persons of interest at this time.
