MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — Multiple law enforcement agencies were busy Tuesday working together to pull over a driver that led them on a high-speed chase on the interstate. Mount Vernon Police initially tracked the suspect’s car, following a call out of Madison County. The suspect was spotted but did not yield to police and then proceeded to I-75 Northbound.

Responding were Berea Police, Madison County Sheriff’s deputies, and Kentucky State Police Post 7 in Richmond.

KSP told FOX 56 that the driver hit a Berea Police cruiser near the 76-mile marker.  The subject then drove with a flat tire after the hit and a spike strip was deployed by KSP, causing damage to the vehicle. He was finally detained by police at the 83-mile point.

Police took 62-year-old Byron Watson of Frankfort into custody, he is lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.

Watson faces charges including speeding more than 26 miles over the speed limit, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, fleeing and evading police, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
