LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Lexington Fire Department battled a house fire that left a home “completely destroyed” on Saturday.

Firefighters were called to the 200 block of Jane Briggs Avenue around 4 p.m. for reports of a structure fire.

Major Derek Roberts said crews worked for hours to extinguish the fire, and the backside of the house had completely collapsed. Crews worked on defensive tactics to protect against exposure.

Three people were able to escape without injury.

“They had no idea. They said when they came down the steps and looked out the window, they saw an orange glow, and they were able to actually get their cars, move their cars out of the garage prior to us getting here,” Batallion Cheif Adam Sorrell said.

Sorrell also said the fire caused damage to two other homes from the heat of the flame.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Officials said the home is viewed as a “complete loss”.
