LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — For many, the thought of surviving naked in the wild for 21 days is crazy, but not for one Lexington native.

Andrew Shayde, director of development at Arbor Youth in Lexington, took on the wilderness of South Africa in Discovery Channel’s “Naked and Afraid” for its 15th season.

There’s no way to completely prepare oneself to spend weeks in a desolate location without any clothes on, but Shayde has one thing going for him — he’s been there before. Shayde appeared in season 12 of the reality TV show, and now, he’s come back for more.

“I don’t know if I’m lucky or cursed, but I got to fly to Africa to challenge myself on the hit reality TV series Naked and Afraid, not only once, but twice,” said Shayde.

When asked to make a return on the series, Shayde said his answer was quick and easy.

“When asked to tackle this brutal adventure again, it was immediately a ‘yes’ from me. Life is so dang short, I want to see as much of the planet as possible and collect every memory I can,” Shayde told FOX 56.

Although he couldn’t give away any spoilers, Shayde did say the episode he appears in is full of action, including close-up encounters with wandering lions and hippos.

Naked and Afraid season 15 premieres on Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. on the Discovery Channel and Discovery+. Shayde’s episode airs on March 12.
