LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — 25 Flock Safety License Plate Readers (LPR) have been installed in Lexington. Now, authorities have updated the public on how the readers have helped the community.
The Lexington Police Department stated that since the first LPR was installed in March, they have been used to help recover 73 stolen vehicles (estimated value of $1.2 million), locate 11 missing people, and further 35 criminal investigations.
The police department emphasized that the readers capture images of passing license plates and store them for criminal investigation purposes. They are not used to capture and enforce traffic violations.
The LPRs were placed in locations around the city that statistically see higher amounts of crime.
