LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Lexington woman is facing several charges after reportedly stealing an ambulance Sunday evening.

According to authorities, Wayne County EMS dropped off a patient at St. Joseph Hospital and returned around 5:45 p.m. to find the ambulance gone.

Arrest records show Jericha Hays, 43, was behind the wheel of the ambulance. Officers reportedly saw her hit another car before speeding away, fleeing police, and driving down a one-way street as she continued to drive “erratically.”

Hays eventually stopped in the Walmart parking lot on West New Circle Road, per police. She was arrested and charged with:

  • Theft by unlawful taking or disposition of an automobile
  • Reckless driving
  • Leaving the scene of an accident-failure to render aid or assistance
  • Criminal mischief
  • First-degree fleeing or evading police
  • First-degree wanton endangerment

The vehicle was damaged with scratches and a bent bumper, according to Wayne County EMS director Sherwin Corder.

Hays was booked into the Fayette County Detention Center.
