NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — Staff from a new Nicholasville senior home took Thursday morning to show appreciation to those who have served the United States.

Cedarhurst Senior Living in Nicholasville invited the American Legion Post 63 honor guard to conduct a flag-raising ceremony. The facility had a flagpole — but no flag. After calling the honor guard, they offered to raise the very first American flag for the building. Staff and residents came to take in the big moment.

“Thank you for your service. It means a lot knowing that there are people in our past that have not only given their lives to serve our country but also people that might be living next door to us. We don’t know who they are, but we know that they have served, and we honor them,” said Cedarhurst Life Enrichment Director Will Naylor.

Right now, Harry Hoffman is their only veteran resident. He was awarded a plaque for his military service.
