LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Last-minute hotel bookers may be out of luck.

Lexington is hosting a slew of events, and the hotel market is feeling the stress. Baseball, softball, tennis, and track and field championships are all on at the same time that UK is hosting the NCAA Baseball Regional Tournament, which is happening during the two-day Railbird Music Festival at Red Mile.

Hotel resources are spread thin, but VisitLex said it’s a good problem to have.

“Whether they’re getting gas or food or supporting a local business, I think Lexington is growing, and the fact that we have this problem is a good thing. So we have more accommodations coming to Lexington as we speak. You know, the tourism development district is developing as we speak. So we’re definitely growing as a city in order to be able to host these larger events or multiple events at one time,” said Martina Barksdale, director of communications at VisitLex.

There are several projects underway to provide more lodging in the city, including a hotel on Manchester Street that opens this week.
