LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – The man accused of killing a Madison County woman appeared in court on Wednesday on charges of assaulting a deputy.

Shannon Gilday was originally placed in Madison County Detention Center after being charged with killing Jordan Morgan in her father’s home earlier this year.

Gilday appeared in court on the new charges connected to the alleged assault of a deputy jailer.

According to an arrest citation, deputies investigated noise inside the jail and found Gilday holding the deputy’s neck in his forearm.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

Gilday’s attorney, Tom Griffiths, said his client’s mental health led to these incidents.

“What happened today is caused by the same thing that caused the murder charges, and that is that Shannon is profoundly mentally ill,” Griffiths said.

Gilday’s next court appearance is May 12 in connection to his murder charge.
