LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — University of Kentucky Police Chief Joe Monroe released the following statement regarding Wednesday’s early morning shots fired incident:

“Early this morning, UK Police responded immediately to reports of shots fired in the area of University Drive and Cooper Drive. Police determined shortly after that a gun was discharged from inside a vehicle and it was not an active shooter situation. While UK Police continue to investigate, once determining there were no victims and no active threat to campus safety, the all clear was issued,” said Monroe.

Monroe further stated that the university has multiple outlets available in order to find the most up-to-date information during campus emergencies, including the UK homepage, UK Alert webpage, UKNow, UK’s official Facebook and Twitter, The UK info line at (859)-257-5684, and UK cable channel 184.

University of Kentucky Police are investigating reports of shots fired on campus overnight.

UK police said they received reports of shots fired at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in the area of University and Cooper Drive near Parking Structure 1.

After an initial investigation, UK’s alert system sent a message at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday which stated the emergency situation was over.

UK’s official Twitter account stated this was not an active shooter situation and that no victims were reported.

Authorities are continuing an investigation into this incident.
