LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Two sisters sharing one dream. KecShelby Vineyards and Winery is the newest small farm winery in Lexington owned by Kecia Scherr and Shelby Stephens.
KecShelby Vineyards and Winery started selling bottles in 2018. The wine shack opened less than a year ago. However, their parents have been making wine for years. They work in health care and never had enough time to start a business. Now that Kecia and Shelby are adults, they’re making the family dream a reality.
The small business currently offers tastings, glasses, and bottles of wine at its wine shack located at 901 N. Yarnallton Pike. It’s open Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and also offers outdoor events and weddings.
With community support, Kecia and Shelby hope to expand the shack into an empire. The duo is renovating the vineyards, which has slowed grape production, forcing them to buy juice elsewhere. They are also revamping the barn to fit a full-size tasting room, so they can give tours and open a restaurant. The sisters additionally have several secret projects starting soon.
Their ultimate dream would be for the business grows big enough their dad no longer needs to commute nearly four hours total to West Virginia for work every day.
Kecia and Shelby are grateful for their recent success and hopeful for the future.
