LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – A suspect is in custody after a Friday afternoon shooting on Short Street in Lexington.

Lexington police said at around 2:40 p.m. they received a call claiming an occupant of a white Chrysler 300 fired multiple shots causing property damage to a vehicle.

Police told FOX 56 the suspect was later spotted on North Broadway, where a traffic stop was attempted, but the vehicle escaped from officers into a heavily trafficked area, where they were lost for a time.

Officers, including an air unit, managed to locate the Chrysler near Louden. The vehicle blew out a tire and the suspect attempted to escape again on foot, until he was finally arrested.

The suspect, 18-year-old J’Lynn Hersey, was taken into custody.

Hersey is currently charged with:

  • Wanton endangerment, three counts
  • Fleeing or evading police, two counts
  • No driver’s license

Hersey is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.

Additionally, police are asking if anyone has information about the shooting to call Lexington Police Department as they are looking for surveillance footage from locations in the Elmtree area. Contact LPD as well if you find any property damage due to the shots fired in the area.
