Kentucky State Police suspect the body found in a car in Madison County is that of a missing Richmond man.

Troopers were originally called to the scene off Duck Branch Road, near Kentucky 595, about 3:30 p.m. Saturday after someone called claiming to have seen a car in the nearby creek. That vehicle, they said, matches the description of the car owned by 78-year-old Fred Warner.

Warner’s family reported him missing back in December, after the 78-year-old, who was diagnosed with dementia, left his home without his cell phone. Earlier this month, the family had offered a $5,000 reward for any information leading to his safe return.

Sunday morning, troopers were back at the scene working to get the man’s body out of the car. They are still investigating.
