ATLANTA (FOX 56) – On the night she went first overall in the 2022 WNBA Draft, Rhyne Howard had a goal in sight. Winning Rookie of the Year would signify a successful year individually for the former Kentucky great.

On Tuesday afternoon, she moved one step closer to accomplishing that goal, as the Associated Press named Howard their WNBA Rookie of the Year. The Atlanta Dream’s phenom led all rookies in scoring this season, averaging 16 points per game.

Howard, who was also named Rookie of the Month for the fourth time this season, averaged 19 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals per game in the final month of the season.

The former Wildcat had an eventful Tuesday. Howard was also selected for the U.S. Women’s National Team training camp that takes place in Las Vegas, as the team prepares for September’s FIBA World Cup.
