LOS ANGELES (FOX 56) – The anticipation is now over for four Kentucky Wildcats baseball players. The 2022 MLB Draft saw four Wildcats hear their name called.
Ryan Ritter – Colorado Rockies (4th Round, 116th Pick)
Kentucky junior shortstop highlighted the day being the first Wildcat to be selected on day two. Ritter established himself as one of the best defensive shortstops in the country. The Chicago native averaged .283 at the plate with 8 home runs, 36 RBIs, and stole 15 bases.
As a shortstop, he only allowed 12 errors in 112 games.
Tyler Guilfoil – Houston Astros (8th Round, 253rd Pick)
Kentucky junior pitcher Tyler Guilfoil, who transferred back home after last season, turned in arguably the best season in history by a Kentucky reliever in 2022. Guilfoil emerged as one of the best relievers in the country recording a 1.59 ERA, six saves, and struck out 80 batters through 51 innings.
Sean Harney – Tampa Bay Rays (8th Round, 254th Pick)
Kentucky graduate student, Sean Harney, spent three seasons at the University of Massachusetts where he started 21 of 27 games. In his time there he posted a 3.49 career ERA in 136.2 innings, allowed 109 hits, and struck out 100 batters.
At UK, Harney appeared in 16 games recording a 2.62 ERA, 65 K, and 17 BB.
Chase Estep – NY Mets (9th Round, 269th Pick)
Chase Estep had a monster season in 2022. He finished with a .302 batting average, 13 home runs, and 16 stolen bases.
As a third-baseman, Estep finished with a .932 fielding percentage.
