LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – The Kentucky baseball team got its weekend series with Missouri started with a win on Friday night, a 12-2 run-rule victory in 7 innings.
The players and fans at Kentucky Proud Park battled a brutal day of weather but got the game in, despite light rain starting after the 5th inning.
Missouri hit the scoreboard first with a 1st inning run, but the Wildcats responded with a 2-run RBI single from Hunter Gilliam to take the lead and kept it rolling with a Ryan Waldschmidt 3-run homerun.
Starter Darren Williams had a couple shaky innings but put together a win, his 2nd decision victory of the season. The super senior threw 5.0 innings and allowed two runs on two hits, striking out five while throwing 100 pitches on the outing.
No. 18 Kentucky gets back at it at 2 p.m. on Saturday and finishes the series at 12 p.m. on Sunday against Missouri at Kentucky Proud Park.
