LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — High pressure is going to bring us gorgeous weather today. Expect abundant sunshine and milder temperatures.

Clouds increase tonight in advance of our next storm system that brings rain to the area by sunrise Friday.

Periods of rain continue through the day on Friday and it could be heavy at times.

Friday night into the wee hours of Saturday a cold front sweeps through bringing storms.

Some of the storms could be strong or severe and the Storm Prediction Center has all of our area highlighted for potential severe storms.

The greatest risk is in western Kentucky and the storms are expected to weaken as they move east. Damaging wind gusts will be the main threat, but an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out.

Drier weather returns Saturday, but winds could still gust over 40 MPH with temperatures falling through the afternoon.

Sunshine and milder temperatures return on Sunday with a big warm-up next week.
