LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Soon, the summertime warmth will build in and hang around for a few months as temperatures surge into the 80s and 90s at times. Yes, the pools will be open soon!

When looking back at 2022, there were a lot of warm days for the Commonwealth, and the total number of 80º+ days was above normal.

For 2023 so far, we’ve tallied twelve 80º+ days. When comparing this number to this time last year, that number was already up to seventeen.

For the month of May, on average, we usually see eleven 80º+ days. So far, Lexington has only reached that mark of 80º or better six times this month. By the calendar year, we’ve observed 12 days at 80º+, which is below the average of 14 days.

Now, if you’re looking for some warmer news, NOAA’s latest summer prediction is calling for slightly above-average temperatures with wetter-than-normal conditions.

Does that mean more than the average 80º+ days? Or could we see more warmth with lots of 90s ahead? Time will tell.
